Overview

Senior Legal Counsel, Canadian Operations – EN. The role is based in Sudbury or at a mine site, with travel as required, reporting to the Vice President, Ontario & General Manager Côté Gold, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Deputy General Counsel at Corporate.

We are hiring a seasoned legal professional to join our team as Senior Legal Counsel, Canadian Operations, supporting our Côté Gold and Westwood Mines.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted advisor to site leadership, providing strategic legal guidance and influencing operational decisions.
  • Lead negotiation, drafting, and management of a wide range of commercial agreements, including procurement, construction, engineering, and service contracts.
  • Support the implementation of contract management processes at site, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and supply chain practices.
  • Serve as a key legal resource for site leadership on legal risks, regulatory developments, and compliance matters.
  • Serve as corporate secretary for the Côté Gold Joint Venture and align site-level legal practices with IAMGOLD’s governance standards and legal strategy.
  • Support Indigenous and community agreements, contribute to enterprise risk management, and liaise with Corporate Legal and Supply Chain teams to refine contract terms and mitigate risk.
  • Navigate complex legal and operational contexts, influence executive decision-making, and contribute to shaping the legal culture at site.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in commercial or corporate law, with a strong track record in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Experience in the mining, oil & gas, or construction sectors is preferred.
  • Well-organized, able to work under pressure, and strong English communication skills; French is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with environmental laws and regulations is beneficial.
