About the job Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Our client, a Mid-Tier Precious Metal Miner is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with solid open pit experience to join the team at their new mine under construction. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will develop and lead the geotechnical department at the mine site. This is a rotational role on a 14 day x 14 day rotation with all travel paid for by the company.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Lead internal expertise in establishing and reviewing mine design criteria (pit geometry, slopes, bench height, geometry) in relation to geotechnics.
  • Develop the pit ground control monitoring program.
  • Provide technical support to operations in relation to geotechnical issues, opportunities and risks pertaining to slope stability.
  • Summarizing and analyzing finding from reconnaissance/inspections, investigations and lab testing
  • Analyzing and modelling slope stability, settlement, foundation design, soil retaining structures and other geotechnical problems
  • Ensure that any major or abnormal geotechnical event is investigated, documented and communicated.
  • Preparing or assisting with preparing engineering memos, reports, and presentations

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • University degree in mining engineering, geology, geological engineering, civil engineering or equivalent.
  • Member of a recognized professional association.
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience at mining sites and/or as a consultant.
  • Advanced experience in mining geotechnics.
  • At least 3 years of experience in open-pit mining.
