Senior Analyst, Pension Policy and Legal

We are looking for an experienced pension administration professional to join our Pension Policy and Legal team in Toronto as a Senior Analyst reporting to the Associate Director of PPL. As a member of the PPL team, you are joining a dedicated team of experts with deep pension expertise providing support and solutions to plan design, case escalations, complex plan administration matters, legal issues and broader pension initiatives. The successful candidate will interact with internal and external stakeholders and will always uphold and demonstrate the OMERS vision and core mission.

As a Senior Analyst you will be a subject-matter expert in defined benefit pension fundamentals and will be responsible for supporting complex and technical pension administration issues arising from our members, employers and third parties. By acting as a valued partner across Pensions, you will play a role in facilitating innovation, promoting plan sustainability while meeting the evolving needs and expectations of our members, employers and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Offer innovative, flexible and creative solutions to complex inquiries, while ensuring compliance with Plan and Legislative rules
  • Research and analyze the details of each inquiry and provide accurate direction and/or resolution
  • Support complex member or potential beneficiary escalations through to resolution by investigating issues, identifying root causes, and determining a resolution that meets member needs while adhering to all regulatory, plan and/or policy requirements
  • Identify process, communication, and pension content gaps and make recommendations for improvements to enhance the experience of our internal employees, members, employees and third parties
  • Develop clear and well-written reports, and supporting documentation for presentations to Senior Management and other audiences
  • Proactively identify and contribute to issue resolution in consultation with Pension leaders and key stakeholders
  • Coordinate and support meetings with internal stakeholders, as necessary, to discuss and develop issues handling approach, action plans and policy guidelines
  • Build and maintain collaborative and constructive relationships with internal partners
  • Support the development of OMERS pension content by providing input to enhance the content to support understanding of OMERS administration
  • Stay connected to the evolving pension landscape, including legislative/regulatory reforms, pension trends, news and activities in the Canadian Pension industry and the major Ontario pension plans and provide insights on any related impacts to OMERS
  • Support other initiatives and projects within the Pension Services team, as required
Qualifications
  • University Degree or equivalent with 3+ years relevant pension and/or policy experience.
  • Policy, law, actuarial or economic degree or training would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of pension plan administration, plan design and current pension legislation/regulations.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and related data, identify issues, synthesize relevant and available information and infer conclusions even in ambiguous situations
  • Conceptual thinker with the ability to clearly capture, communicate and share information
  • Proven ability to develop insightful and creative solutions, while ensuring that risks and cost to the Plan are analyzed and stakeholders’ views were considered
  • Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative analysis methods and reporting/presentation approaches both written and visual
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in exercising judgment and tactfulness when dealing with both internal and external stakeholders
  • High integrity and discretion to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a team in an environment with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Superior inter-personal and organizational skills
  • Proficient in MS Office such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint

This posting is for an existing vacancy. The expected salary range for this position is $86,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year.
