Job description

Aviva Canada Inc. has multiple excellent opportunities, both at the Actuarial Analyst level and Senior Actuarial Analyst level, in our Commercial Pricing team. The primary mandate of the team is to ensure profitable growth for the commercial book of business. As part of the team, you will be involved in reviewing our current price level, monitoring the performance of various regions / segments and on various business initiatives, projecting underwriting and claims experience, assessing the business impact of proposed initiatives, maintaining our actuarial SAS databases / programs and developing pricing tools for the business. Depending on your assignment, you will work closely with other members of the actuarial team, underwriters and data scientists to provide pricing support for our commercial products. You will have opportunities to work with operational managers and finance partners on some assignments that require collaboration between different departments.

What you’ll do:

  • Review loss experience of the commercial business and prepare rate indications for various segments and lines of business.

  • Lead pricing reviews of various coverages and segments of the commercial business, including reviewing the rating algorithms and rate adequacy, analysing the business impact of the pricing changes, communicating the analytical results to the stakeholders / senior management and reaching an agreement on the rate actions.

  • Monitor the performance of the commercial portfolio and on various business initiatives, in order to identify key trends and recommend actions to the senior management and to the business to achieve profitability and growth targets.

  • Maintain and improve actuarial databases/SAS programs. Identify data issues and create actions to remedy them.

  • Support technical development required to build and maintain rating tools for the business.

  • Ensure Technical Pricing Standard is applied throughout the pricing work.

  • Act as a technical expert and work comfortably in a team environment, provide supports to peers in the team.

  • Communicate analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong mathematical and statistical background

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Effectively and clearly communicate ideas/decisions

  • 2-4+ years of P&C actuarial experience

  • Proficient in programming; experiences in SAS, Python, Access, and VBA a plus

  • Passed at least 2 SOA/CAS exams
