A leading national accounting firm in Canada is seeking a Senior Accounting Technician for their Assurance & Accounting team. Responsibilities include audit assistance, government remittances, and GL account reconciliation. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration and at least 3 years of relevant experience. Qualifications

  • Must have an accounting certificate or a relevant bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience is required.
  • Experience preparing T4s and T5s is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with audit, bookkeeping, and tax engagements.
  • Prepare government remittances and maintain client files.
  • Perform month-end and quarter-end close processes.
  • Reconcile GL accounts including cash and receivables.

Skills

Accounting certificate or degree
3 years relevant accounting experience
T4s and T5s preparation experience
Knowledge of personal and corporate tax
Working knowledge of accounting principles
Experience with accounting software

Education

Responsibilities
  • Assist with compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements
  • Prepare and maintain government remittances/filings, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable and payroll transactions
  • Set-up client files, assist with the completion of budgets and complete administrative planning
  • Perform the month-end and quarter-end close process
  • Maintain, monitor and reconcile GL accounts including cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, intercompany and point of sale (POS)/system uploads
  • Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies and discuss with managers or engagement partners to develop resolutions
  • Communicate with the government regarding information requests, assessments and installments
  • Work collaboratively with the client engagement team
  • Liaise with clients on administrative matters and provide functional advice to other team members
  • Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary
Qualifications
  • Accounting certificate or bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major is preferred)
  • 3 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience preparing T4s and T5s and knowledge of personal and corporate tax
  • Working knowledge of accounting processes and principles
  • Experience working with accounting and tax software
