Requirements
  • Candidates must be members in good standing or be in the process of becoming Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) qualified before the start date, and be enrolled or have completed their Special Education qualification based on OCT qualifications.
  • If you are external to the YRDSB, you will be prompted to provide at least three (3) professional, supervisory teaching references (including full name, position title, work location/organization, and email address) in the online application screening section. We do not contact references prior to the practicum/interview.
  • If you are an internal YRDSB employee, please include all previous teaching experiences in your application as well as two (2) references, one of which must be a YRDSB administrator.
  • As a [missing word], and in accordance with the Education Act, anyone seeking employment must provide a satisfactory police record check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in your jurisdiction. It must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six months prior to the scheduled start date. Candidates must provide the results to the Board upon instruction.

We will accept satisfactory PVSCs that name any other school board and other employers within Ontario and obtained within the last six months.

Examples Of Referees Could Include The Following
  • Principal/Vice-Principal who has supervised you and can speak to your teaching practice in the panel to which you are applying.
  • Faculty Advisor/Coordinator or Practicum Advisor that has observed and evaluated your teaching practice in a classroom setting.
  • Host/Mentor Teacher who has supervised you and can speak to your teaching practice in a secondary setting (please note that references cannot be completed by current OSSTF, D.16 members).
  • Professional reference who can speak to your teaching practice.
