Job description
Project Overview

Our client, a large-scale public sector organization, is currently undergoing a major digital transformation to modernize how they deliver services. The goal is to create simpler, more efficient systems that meet modern user needs through a new dedicated digital delivery hub. As a Scrum Master, you will facilitate this change by supporting cross-functional teams focused on service innovation and program reviews.

The work involves moving away from legacy processes and adopting human-centered design and modern data practices. In this Scrum Master role, you will help teams navigate agile workflows, ensuring that project delivery remains aligned with user research and technical opportunities. By acting as a Scrum Master, you coordinate with product owners to maintain a healthy Agile environment, helping the team stay focused on high-value features.

The Scrum Master is responsible for identifying external dependencies and helping the team move past roadblocks. Within this Agile framework, the Scrum Master fosters a culture of transparency and self-organization. Success in this Scrum Master position requires a deep understanding of how a Sprint functions and how to mentor others in Agile principles. Every Sprint allows the team to iterate on feedback, and the Scrum Master ensures these cycles are productive. During each Sprint, you will manage communication across departments to keep stakeholders informed without distracting the core delivery team.

Scope of Services

This is a full-time engagement supporting multiple concurrent projects. The Scrum Master will provide the following services:

  • Lead and mentor teams in Agile procedures to improve delivery consistency.
  • Facilitate essential Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, Sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Coordinate the Sprint review process and product demonstrations for stakeholders.
  • Support the product owner in Agile backlog refinement and long-term road-mapping.
  • Monitor team velocity and Sprint progress using tools like JIRA or Azure DevOps.
  • Guide the team through each Sprint to ensure commitments are realistic and achievable.
  • Assist in human-centered design activities, such as observing user research sessions.
  • Foster a collaborative Agile environment that encourages continuous improvement.
  • Manage the documentation of Sprint artifacts to maintain high transparency.
  • Address and resolve internal conflicts to maintain a healthy team dynamic throughout the Sprint.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Scrum Master Certification: Must hold a valid, recognized industry certification.
  • Agile Coaching: Minimum 2 years of experience coaching teams and fostering a collaborative culture.
  • Ceremony Facilitation: 4 years of experience leading planning sessions, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Agile Environment: at least 5 years of experience working within a formal Agile development setting.
  • Public Sector Experience: 2 years of experience navigating the complexities of public-facing organizations.
  • Backlog Management: 2 years of experience with JIRA, Azure DevOps, or similar project management tools.
  • Human-Centered Design: 2 years of experience working alongside UX and service design professionals.
  • Technical Literacy: 5 years of experience with software development processes and modern standards.
  • Remote Collaboration: 2 years of experience delivering training or facilitating sessions via web-based interactive technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
