Tasks
- Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team
- Collect blood, tissue or other samples from patients
- Coordinate patient care
- Evaluate patient care and progress
- Examine the results of the tests
- Implement an interdisciplinary plan of care
- Interpret medical test results
- Interview clients, prepare case histories and assess problems
- Order medical diagnostic or clinical tests
- Perform diagnostic tests
- Plan patient care
- Ensure infection control
- Care for, assess and monitor the health of newborns and refer infants to appropriate medical services as required
- Conduct routine laboratory tests and sample analyses
- Manage labour and spontaneous normal deliveries
- Provide advice and guidance regarding care for newborns and young infants
- Provide primary, full-course, care to women and their babies during pregnancy, labour, birth and the post-natal period including monitoring the health of mother and baby
- Advise patients on health care
- Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures
- Conduct patient interviews, physical assessments and take medical histories
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
- Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) neonatal resuscitation program
- Fetal health surveillance Certification
- Intravenous (IV) therapy Certification
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
- CPR Certificate
- Licensure by the appropriate provincial or territorial authority for midwives
