Your Opportunity

Are you a Respiratory Therapist looking to practice to your full scope and expand your skills across diverse patient care settings? The Respiratory Therapist I – Float position at Chinook Regional Hospital offers an exciting opportunity to grow your expertise in a dynamic environment. As a Float Respiratory Therapist, you will provide coverage across all areas supported by respiratory therapy, including: 20‑bed ICU/CCU, 16‑bed Level 2+ NICU, 11‑bed Pediatric Unit, Level 3 Trauma Center. You will also work in specialized areas such as: Outpatient Respiratory Therapy (bronchoscopy and EBUS assistance, airway support for cardiac procedures, tracheostomy changes, ABGs); Operating Room and Obstetrical OR; Neonatal Resuscitation Team in Labour & Delivery. We provide comprehensive orientation and training for each area to ensure your success. This role is ideal for respiratory therapists with recent acute and critical care experience who want to broaden their practice and take on new challenges. Daily assignments will vary based on operational needs, offering a dynamic and rewarding work experience. Current rotation is a weekdays‑only rotation. Consideration will also be given to Respiratory Therapy students graduating in Spring 2026.

Description

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications
  • Current Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider certification.
  • Recent acute and critical care experience within the past 5 years.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Ability to work 11.08‑hour Day/Night rotations.
  • Flexibility to work in all hospital areas, including NICU, Pediatrics, Labour & Delivery, OR, PACU, Wards, ED, Ambulatory RT, and ICU.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, make independent decisions, and resolve conflict effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include recent neonatal ventilation experience, OR and bronchoscopy exposure, current PALS and ACLS certifications, competency in arterial line insertion, adult intubation, and point‑of‑care ultrasound for arterial lines. Formal mentorship and preceptorship training, relevant bachelor’s degree, and Connect Care experience are assets.
