ABOUT HERE TO HELP

YWCA Toronto Help to Help is a free 12-week program in south Scarborough for Children 4-16 years of age and their mothers/gender diverse parents who have been exposed to abuse. We support participants through the healing process. This program offers a comfortable, compassionate, safe place for children to learn they are not alone. This program offers to mothers/caregivers information on how children may be impacted by their exposure to abuse and provides support on how to support their children’s emotional healing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works as part of a team with program staff and volunteers to provide an integrated program that enhances the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children;
  • Implements a program geared to the needs of the children with concerns for their interests, special needs, strengths and pace of learning;
  • Works with the children in a group while maintaining sensitivity to each child’s individual needs;
  • Communicates with parents/ Program Coordinator on a regular basis concerning the children
  • Ensures that the Health and Safety Guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the funders and YWCA Toronto;
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining an orderly and tidy Centre, clean equipment and tidy cupboards
  • Ensures that the Centre is set up appropriately for children’s activities
QUALIFICATION
  • An Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate or recognized equivalent an asset (high school completion required)
  • 1-3 years’ experience with children ages 0 to 6
  • Skills and flexibility to work with various age groupings from 0 to 6 years
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, theory and practice
  • Experience working within a multicultural environment
  • Second language an asset
