Job description
Position Overview

A staff nursing RPN position of 0.45 FTE in our community-based residence hospice. This position includes nine (9) eight (8) hour regularly scheduled shifts at May Court Hospice. The current schedule consists of nine (9) evening shifts, including every other weekend. Based on staffing needs, the successful applicant can pick up extra shifts up to a 1.0 FTE. Picked up shifts will not increase the FTE. You may be required to transfer to an alternate site. The rate of pay is your current Hospice Care Ottawa RPN rate based on the wage schedule in the collective agreement.

This posting is intended to fill a temporary vacant position.

This position is not eligible for group benefits however is eligible for paid personal/sick leave.

Key Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates, delivers and supports a team to provide day to day end-of-life palliative care for the residents in the Hospice and their families and/or significant others.

Reporting relationship
  1. Reports to the Team Leader(s), with oversight and support from the Director of Residence Care.
  2. Supervises - Under the direction and supervision of the Team Leader(s), the care team, including volunteers, provides end-of-life palliative care to the residents in the Hospice, and provides support to their families and/or significant others.
Qualifications & Background
  1. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  2. CNA Certification in Hospice Palliative Care or willingness to obtain
  3. LEAP Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  4. Current CPR
  5. A strong sense of dedication to the mission, vision and values of Hospice Care Ottawa
  6. Knowledge and experience in Hospice Palliative Care
  7. Compassion, professionalism, and the ability to support families through sensitive conversations
  8. Team-oriented leadership qualities, with a commitment to collaboration and mentorship
  9. Excellent communication skills
  10. Understands Ethics as they relate to Hospice Palliative Care
  11. Physically able to assist bedridden and disabled patients
  12. Bilingualism an asset

Key Performance Indicators
  • Provide clinical leadership and guidance to Personal Support Workers, residence volunteers, new staff, students, and physicians.
  • Deliver safe, compassionate, and holistic nursing care, including administering prescribed medications and treatments, ensuring personal care needs are met, and supporting patients and families emotionally and spiritually.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation, including charting, medication records, and care plans.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, pharmacies, interdisciplinary team members, and family support services to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate actively in resident rounds, team meetings, education sessions, and hospice-wide initiatives such as Skills Week and Health and Safety updates.
  • Uphold standards of patient safety, infection prevention, and a clean, supportive environment within the residence.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability in managing end-of-life care, including appropriate procedures following a resident’s death.
  • Contribute to organizational culture and growth by engaging in mentorship, committee work, and community activities such as fundraising and volunteer appreciation events.

Un (1) poste d'infirmière auxiliaire autorisée (IAA) à 0,45 ETP est présentement disponible à notre résidence de soins palliatifs communautaire, May Court Hospice. Ce poste comprend neuf (9) quarts de travail réguliers de huit (8) heures. L'horaire actuel comprend neuf (9) quarts de soir, incluant une fin de semaine sur deux. Il est possible que vous soyez appelé(e) à travailler dans un autre de nos sites, selon les circonstances.

Selon les besoins opérationnels, la personne retenue pourra effectuer des quarts de travail supplémentaires, jusqu’à concurrence de 1,0 ETP. Ces quarts additionnels n’auront toutefois pas d’impact sur l’ETP officiel. Le taux de rémunération correspond à votre taux actuel d’infirmier-ère auxiliaire autorisé-e à la Maison de soins palliatifs d’Ottawa, selon l’échelle salariale prévue à la convention collective.

Principales responsabilités

Planifier, coordonner, diriger et soutenir une équipe chargée de fournir des soins palliatifs quotidiens aux résidents de l'hospice et à leurs familles et/ou leurs proches.

Relevé hiérarchique
  1. Relève du ou des chefs d'équipe, sous la supervision et avec le soutien du directeur-trice des soins en résidence.
  2. Supervise, sous la direction et la supervision du ou des chefs d'équipe, l'équipe de soins, incluant les bénévoles, offre des soins palliatifs et de fin de vie aux résidents de la maison de soins palliatifs, ainsi qu’un soutien à leurs familles et/ou à leurs proches.
Qualifications et expérience
  1. Inscription en règle auprès de l'Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers de l'Ontario
  2. Certification de l’AIIC en soins palliatifs ou engagement à l'obtenir
  3. Certification LEAP ou engagement de l’obtenir dans les six (6) mois
  4. Certificat RCR à jour
  5. Fort adhésion à la mission, à la vision et aux valeurs de la Maison de soins palliatifs d’Ottawa
  6. Connaissance et expérience en soins palliatifs
  7. Compassion, professionnalisme et capacité à accompagner les familles dans le cadre de conversations délicates
  8. Qualités de leadership axées sur le travail d’équipe, avec un engagement envers la collaboration et le mentorat
  9. Excellentes aptitudes en communication
  10. Bonne compréhension des enjeux éthiques liés aux soins palliatifs en résidence
  11. Capacité physique à assister les résidents alités et en situation de handicap
  12. Le bilinguisme est un atout
