Job summary

A health services organization in Winnipeg is seeking a candidate experienced in working with Indigenous patients in an acute care setting. You will need a Bachelor’s degree in a health or social services discipline and at least 2 years of relevant experience. The role requires familiarity with Indigenous communities and coordination in multidisciplinary health teams. This position offers flexibility with days, evenings, and weekends as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience working with Indigenous patients in an acute care setting.
  • Experience/knowledge of acute, primary and long-term care systems & processes is desirable.
  • Must have extensive experience working in and with the Indigenous community.
  • Familiarity in implementing a multi-disciplinary team approach to client care.
  • Demonstrated experience in navigating multi-jurisdictional levels of government.

  • Ensure effective communication using telehealth and technology.

Position Overview
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience working with Indigenous patients in an acute care setting.
  • Experience/knowledge of acute, primary and long-term care systems & processes is desirable.
  • Must have extensive experience working in and with the Indigenous community and be familiar with available resources both locally and in rural locations.
  • Must have knowledge of the First Nation and Inuit Health Branch policies and procedures; functions and roles of Nursing Stations; First Nation Health Centres; Indigenous Services Canada, etc; and related communications technology as it pertains to patient communication (i.e., telehealth, MS teams, etc).
  • Familiarity in implementing a multi-disciplinary team approach to client care.
  • Demonstrated experience in navigating multi-jurisdictional levels of government.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health or social services discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and traditional practices.

  • Must have knowledge of MS Office (Word,Outlook, email, knowledge Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of traditional and/or contemporary Indigenous customs and practices.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the position.
  • Primarily days, Monday to Friday.
  • May be required to be on-call
  • May be required to travel between facilities/sites.
  • Must have a valid driver license and access to a vehicle.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
