A municipal government is seeking a Recreation Clerk 2 for temporary full-time work in Burnaby. This role involves supervising staff, handling cash receipts, and providing clerical support in a recreational environment. Candidates should have completed Grade 12 with relevant courses and possess strong office management skills. The schedule includes 70 hours bi-weekly with specific afternoon and weekend shifts. This position works in the Central Valley – Administration organizational unit. This is public contact and moderately complex clerical work, involving organizing and monitoring the efficient operation of office support services in a recreation facility. The work also entails supervising and participating in the work of one or more subordinates; verifying and recording cash receipts; answering a variety of enquiries related to facility programs, rules and regulations; and preparing and maintaining a variety of records and files. Experience with facility allotments is an asset. The work is differentiated from a Recreation Clerk 1 by virtue of the responsibilities in supervising staff and overseeing clerical procedures. An employee of a position in this class exercises considerable independence of judgement and action within established guidelines, referring unusual or complex matters to a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of conformance with established procedures and effectiveness of services provided. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by commercial, and word processing courses; sound related office, cash handling experience including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. As a Recreation Clerk 2, you will have considerable knowledge of departmental policies, practices, rules, and regulations (e.g. safety) related to the work performed and the ability to organize and monitor office support services in a recreation facility. Furthermore, you will have skill in typing rapidly and accurately; the operation of the computer systems (e.g. ActiveNet), and equipment related to work and office computer applications. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia may be required for some positions. Please note that a Police Information Check is required for this position.
Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Wednesday from 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM; Thursday from 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Sunday from 6:45 AM – 2:45 PM.
This is a Temporary Full Time opportunity until July 31, 2026.
