Job description

This position works in the Eileen Dailly Aquatic Programs organizational unit. This is recreational work of an administrative and supervisory nature in managing the operations of Eileen Dailly Pool as well as programming. Responsibilities include developing, coordinating, participating in and directing recreational programs and services to meet the needs and requirements of the complex and areas served. The Recreation Centre Supervisor 1 plans, assigns, checks and supervises the work of regular and auxiliary staff engaged in recreational tasks, and hires, trains and develops staff seasonally and as required; prepares budgets, monitors expenditures; prepares and maintains a variety of records, reports, correspondence statements and related data; directs facility rental and registration procedures; promotes and maintains effective working relationship with a variety of internal and external contacts, publicizes and promotes center programs and services; prepares and delivers talks to groups, schools, committees and others as required; assists in developing operating policies and regulations and establishes and implements new and improved work methods and procedures to ensure for the efficient and economical operations. Performs related work as required.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Qualifications include university graduation in recreation or related discipline plus some related managerial experience in facility operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in operations. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the operation and management of an aquatic recreational centre or complex; of the rules, regulations, policies and requirements governing operations. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate and manage the operations, programs and services of an aquatic recreational centre or complex under minimal supervision; to hire, train, supervise and motivate staff; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with groups, associations and the public, and speak effectively in public; and to prepare budgets, reports, records and correspondence, and direct the accounting and control of revenue and expenditures. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position. Advanced Lifesaving Society certifications, and BCRPA Supervisor of Fitness Leaders (SFL) will be considered an asset.
