Radiation Therapist, Radiation Oncology
Location : Victoria, BC
Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital is welcoming a Radiation Therapist at our Emergency & Specialty Referral Centre.
Responsibilities
- Provide radiation services and patient care in accordance with established policies and standards of professional practice for radiation therapy.
- Deliver radiation therapy and perform follow-up duties as part of the Radiation Oncology team.
- Collaborate with the Radiation Oncology team and related services to support patient diagnosis and treatment needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical records, client communications, diagnostic treatments, and financial records.
Qualifications
- Degree in Radiation Therapy or a recognized certificate and CAMRT certification.
- Previous experience in veterinary medicine is an asset but not required.
- Strong interest in learning about veterinary medicine and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule and Attributes
- Schedule offers some flexibility for part-time to full-time hours; department currently open Monday through Thursday.
- Communicate and coordinate with the Radiation Oncologist, Hospitalist, Registered Veterinary Technician and Technician Assistant on patient plans, schedules, etc.
- Possess the ability to thrive in a steady and often fast-paced environment and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities – Procedures
- Perform treatment planning procedures including constructing immobilization and beam directional and shaping devices.
- Use simulation and related equipment for generation and verification of treatment plans.
- Position and mark the patient to ensure optimal dose distribution and reproducibility of the treatment plan.
- CT set-up and acquisition; review, interpret and implement radiation treatment prescriptions.
- Assist clients with interpretation of the treatment plan and evaluate understanding of treatment and side effects.
Quality and Safety
- Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to safety policies, standards and emergency procedures.
- Perform quality assurance checks of equipment and maintain records; take appropriate action on equipment malfunctions.
Professional Development
- Update clinical knowledge and skills in Radiation Therapy by reviewing literature, consulting with professionals, and participating in relevant education programs.
