We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Credit Analyst to join BMO Life Assurance insurance investment team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting fundamental credit analysis and identifying attractive relative value opportunities within and across fixed income assets, with a focus on supporting the liability growth within an insurance balance sheet.

Responsibilities
  • Perform fundamental credit analysis on investment grade and high yield issuers across corporate, structured, sovereign and financial sectors.
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of bond issuers' financial statements, credit metrics, covenant structures, and industry dynamics.
  • Identify and articulate relative value opportunities within and across asset classes, sectors, geographies, and capital structures, considering risk-adjusted return, liquidity and regulatory capital efficiency.
  • Support portfolio construction by comparing credit instruments against alternatives such as securitized assets and private debt.
  • Monitor existing holdings for credit events, rating changes, covenant breaches, and deteriorating trends.
  • Provide credit recommendations to portfolio managers and contribute to investment decisions with clear, data-driven insights.
  • Collaborate with ALM, actuarial and risk management teams to ensure alignment between credit views and liability-driven investing strategies.
  • Support regulatory reporting process by providing inputs into capital requirement calculation under LICAT.
  • Stay informed about macroeconomic, sector-specific, and regulatory developments affecting credit markets.
  • Participate in issuer meetings, rating agency updates, and industry conferences to enhance credit views.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
  • CFA designation or progress toward it preferred.
  • 3-7 years of experience in credit analysis, preferably within insurance, asset management, or rating agencies.
  • Strong understanding of fixed income markets and credit instruments including corporates, CLO/ABS/MBS, and private placements.
  • Familiarity with insurance regulatory capital frameworks (e.g., LICAT).
  • Strong ability to interpret financial statements, cash flow analysis, and capital structures.
  • High proficiency with Excel, Bloomberg, and credit modeling tools.
  • Proficiency in Python and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI or Tableau) is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Salary: $78,400.00 - $144,900.00

Pay Type: Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
