A leading health solutions provider is seeking a psychiatrist for remote assessments related to absence and disability management. The role requires conducting evaluations via video call, providing clinical recommendations, and maintaining a minimum engagement in the program. Applicants must have an M.D. specializing in Psychiatry, a valid license in Quebec, and a strong command of French. The position offers flexibility but no guaranteed volume of work.

Location: Province of Quebec, Remote
Status: Affiliate / Independent Contractor (100% virtual)
Reporting to the Disability Management team, the psychiatrist acts as a medical consultant and conducts occasional psychiatric assessments for clients in absence and disability management. These assessments aim to advance short-term claims when the primary care physician wishes to refer the patient but the patient is on a waiting list in the traditional healthcare network.
All assessments and report writing are conducted entirely virtually, using the Microsoft Teams platform (account provided by TELUS Health).
In this role, the psychiatrist will be expected to:
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments via video call to evaluate the client’s mental health and the factors supporting or hindering their recovery;
Communicate with clients using a video call platform to perform the required clinical assessments;
Assess risk level, severity of mental health disorders, and functional capacity in relation to work;
Provide clear and relevant clinical recommendations within the context of absence and disability management;
Complete the psychiatric assessment report using the template provided by TELUS Health, within the required timelines;
Adhere to rapid turnaround times: the assessment and report must be completed within two (2) weeks of referral;
Work with clients in Absence and Disability Management (ADM) through occasional assignments designed to support the progress of short-term claims;
Practice in a fully virtual environment (Microsoft Teams – account provided by TELUS Health);
Provide availability in advance, ideally for the upcoming month, to allow scheduling within approximately one week;
Maintain a minimum engagement of two (2) assessments per month to remain active in the program;
Acknowledge that the volume of referrals may vary and that no guaranteed volume is offered.
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) with a specialization in Psychiatry;
Valid and active license with the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ);
Excellent command of spoken and written French
(assessments, scheduling, and documentation are conducted in French);
Ability to collaborate within a bilingual interdisciplinary team (internal communications primarily in English);
Demonstrated experience in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of moderate to severe mental health disorders;
Strong skills in communication, empathy, active listening, clinical writing, and organization;
Comfort with technological tools and teleconsultation platforms.
