Summary:

The Project Engineer contributes to the development and delivery of relevant plant capital projects according to the long‑term capital plan in alignment with Ash Grove’s corporate strategy.

What you’ll be contributing:
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Assures that assigned contractors for projects conform to required health and safety procedures and practices.
  • Compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the CRH OH&S Program.
  • Promote and support company programs, policies and practices.
  • Performs inspections by visiting job sites regularly and for extended periods. Regularly reports on project progress.
  • Prepare project documents including project justifications, budget analyses, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules for assigned facility projects including commissioning and handover to operations.
  • Understands contract requirements and negotiation, building code requirements, construction inspection procedures, process area methods, and plant electrical requirements.
  • Coordinates construction inspection and testing activities. Identifies deficiencies and acts to rectify them.
  • Assists in the development of standard specifications for construction projects and contract documents.
  • Evaluates and reviews third‑party engineering conceptual designs, quotations, and drawings for accuracy and communicates deficiencies for resolution in the company’s best interest.
  • Assists in developing and implementing training for standard software packages for use in the project management process.
  • Obtain certification and conformance to current government regulations for new and modified structures.
  • Ensure quality control by taking responsibility for schedule coordination and evaluating, recommending and preparing contract change orders as necessary.
  • Work with process engineering and maintenance personnel (electrical, mechanical, civil engineers) to implement projects, either on their behalf, jointly, or in an advisory role, depending on the project.
  • Negotiates effectively any commercial, construction, and technical disputes.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
  • 4 Year University Degree in Mechanical, electrical, civil, mining, Electronic Instrumentation and Technology or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng), PMP is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing projects in heavy construction and process industry.
  • Managing projects in heavy construction and/or process industry.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of cement plant operations.
  • Communications – communicate with impact and create an environment in which people communicate honestly and openly. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analysis and Problem‑Solving – Effectively examine events, issues and problems and generate optimal solutions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to assess projects and monitor costs.
  • Fosters Teamwork and Cooperation – Foster a sense of collaboration and work effectively across the organization to achieve goals.
