Nature and Scope
The incumbent reports to the Estimating/Engineering Manager. As part of the Engineering Team, the Project Coordinator is responsible for planning, scheduling, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating production projects from start to finish according to schedule, specification and budget.
The primary responsibilities of the Project Coordinator will include the following:
- Estimating support
- Drafting
- Quality control compliance
- Contractual compliance
In addition, the Project Coordinator shall coordinate with the Engineering Team and Production Team to produce fabrication shop drawings and ensure strict adherence to the quality control requirements for each project including compliance with all CSA and MTO standards and specifications.
Principal Accountability
- Work collaboratively with the Production Team, Engineering team and Quality team.
- Be responsible for tenders and Request for Quotation (RFQ) submissions for potential projects under submission. Under the direct supervision of the Estimating/Engineering Manager, the project coordinator ensures the tender or RFQ documents have been evaluated to the extent that all items and conditions related to future contractual work have been considered in the estimate and properly addressed on the tender form.
- Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules.
- Soliciting and coordinating input from Production and Engineering Team with respect to design, custom products, material and labor requirements, production capacity, site conditions and installation requirements.
- Provide preliminary designs to accurately prepare bids
- Reviewing all tender or RFQ documents that define the scope of work in each bid package.
- Preparing an accurate take-off of components from tender or RFQ drawings to determine quantity and type of manufactured products, purchased items, support services and shipping requirements.
- Estimating costs for materials, labor, equipment and support services based on take-off, bid package scope definition, departmental input and standard allowances.
- Reviewing Contract Documents issued for Tender or RFQ and identifying all technical and commercial risk items.
- Liaise with Sales Representative to establish the best sales approach.
- Completing the Tender form or preparing the scope/proposal document to be issued to client(s).
- Participation in Precast Prefabrication meetings after award of contract.
- Creating and altering construction sketches. Creating accurate CAD drawings from hand sketches, verbal instructions, and site visits.
- Creating and continually updating the project drawing lists.
- Systematically saving sketches and drawings on CAD server; keeping the server organized; updating project folders and files as jobs progress and revisions are made.
- Provide support to the Quality Control department with preparation of the Quality Control Plan. Monitor quality performance to contract requirements.
- Consolidate all Quality Control documentation for ongoing projects and projects completed. Review project close-off Quality Control reports to be submitted as per individual project requirements.
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations; as well as the Company Health and Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities. Promote Power Precast’s safety vision.
Primary Interactions
Internal Interactions:
- The Project Coordinator must have the ability and knowledge to discuss technical, contractual and cost related subjects with internal departments of the company.
- The Project Coordinator must have the ability to provide support to the Engineering Team and Quality Team to ensure adherence to all project QC requirements.
External Interactions:
- The Project Coordinator must have the ability and knowledge to discuss technical, contractual and cost related subjects with customers and sales representatives.
Education & Experience
- Experience in Construction, Manufacturing or a Production based environment along with Engineering, Drafting, and Estimating experience, preferably in the precast concrete or construction industry.
- Minimum 2-years experience with AutoCAD 2D and 3D Modelling
- Graduate Civil Engineer or Engineering/Architectural Technologist or equivalent in training, working towards C.E.T designation preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent numerical and spread sheet skills, including high degree of accuracy.
- Effective written and communication skills in the English language.
- Effective planning and time management skills to handle multiple projects within deadline requirements.
