Job Purpose:
The Private Banker possesses strong knowledge of customized commercial lending, risk management, financial products and services, wealth management, and retail lending. The incumbent has comprehensive experience and product knowledge to deliver service and customized lending solutions aligned with high net worth client needs.
This position focuses on generating new clients and the cross-sell, up-sell, and retention of existing high-value Wealth Management clients. Responsibilities include identifying high net worth prospects with complex lending needs, developing acquisition strategies, growing relationships, maintaining a prospect sales pipeline, conducting sales calls, and qualifying opportunities based on customer information and due diligence.
The incumbent manages approximately 150 high net worth households. This role is key for business development with objectives for lending, fees, deposits, and referrals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Management and Risk Mitigation:
- Coordinate with Retail credit adjudication (ACE) or Wealth Credit Solutions for customized credit, negotiate terms, structuring fees, interest rates, and documentation.
- Provide relationship banking and administrative support to high net worth clients.
- Use knowledge of bank products to anticipate client needs and deliver solutions through referrals.
- Manage client relationships to ensure satisfactory operation of credit facilities and accounts.
- Identify and mitigate problem loans proactively.
- Act as Primary Relationship Manager using the Financial Planning process to understand client needs and maintain service standards.
- Refer clients to the SPCG Team of Experts and develop multiple client relationships based on strategies.
- Participate as a key member of the Team of Experts to address client needs.
- Business Development:
- Market customized Private Banking credit solutions to support wealth strategies.
- Develop and execute strategies to attract and retain high net worth clients.
- Understand client needs and make referrals to various bank units.
- Identify prospects and generate referrals from networks.
- Maintain a strong prospect sales pipeline, conduct sales calls, and qualify opportunities.
- Inform client management partners of client information and priorities.
- Operational Effectiveness:
- Ensure management controls are in place and effective.
- Monitor expenses against budgets and provide explanations for variances.
- Support and guide the Manager, Client Services.
- Review and resolve client concerns and ensure compliance with security and regulatory procedures.
- Report fraudulent activities or issues as applicable.
- Credit Risk Management:
- Fulfill credit requests through adjudication or working with the Credit Solutions team.
- Ensure credit facilities operate within authorized terms.
- Secure appropriate security and resolve issues promptly.
- Develop underwriting skills and ensure security documentation is accurate and renewed.
- Team Contribution:
- Participate in team development activities and performance achievements.
- Build effective relationships across teams.
- Maintain high customer service standards and foster open communication.
- Share knowledge and develop employee growth plans.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of commercial lending and 10 years of banking experience.
- Established network of High Net Worth clients in Canada.
- 3-5 years of managerial experience dealing with high net worth clients and complex financing.
- Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and business development skills.
- University degree (BComm, MBA, CFA) and relevant industry courses (CSC, PFP, CFP).
