Overview

Powerline Technician(s)

DDP Technology is building a line division and is seeking experienced Powerline Technicians who want to help us grow. We specialize in Live CO2 Blast cleaning and the inspection and maintenance of high voltage equipment. CO2 dry ice cleaning is rapidly becoming the preferred method of cleaning among the industrial, commercial utility, and environmental sectors.

Position summary

Reporting to the Field Supervisor, the Powerline Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and quality-driven work environment. The role involves working safely as part of a crew while completing maintenance and troubleshooting of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.

This role requires:

  • Leadership - You will guide, inspire, and motivate your team.
  • Communication - Clear communication is critical. You will relay information accurately and promptly between management and the crew.
  • Decision making - Ability to analyze situations quickly and make informed decisions.
  • Problem Solving - Resourceful and innovative in addressing challenges to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Attention to detail - Overseeing diverse tasks and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards; keen attention to detail to maintain a safe and effective work environment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Job planning and daily tailboard conference
  • Safe work setup including traffic control at job sites
  • Proficient in testing and troubleshooting of overhead and underground circuits
  • Proficient in utilizing UWPC to establish hold offs and work permits
  • Operate motorized vehicles and equipment such as trucks, radial boom derricks, aerial devices, and portable generators safely
  • Assist with training of Apprentice Powerline Technicians
  • Support and participate in job-specific training and programs
  • Perform data collection using approved materials
  • Visual inspections and maintenance on high voltage electrical equipment
  • Identify potential hazards
  • Capture and document non-compliance issues with photographs, descriptions, and references
  • Perform Live CO2 blast cleaning of high voltage electrical equipment
  • Assume Lead Powerline Technician duties when required

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Lineperson / Powerline Technician Certification (Red Seal certification required)
  • Authorized and licensed to work in Ontario
  • Provide a current criminal record check and suitable driver’s abstract
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License in good standing, preferably AZ or DZ
  • Understand and practice EUSR Safety Rules, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA requirements, and all applicable legislation and safe work practices
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (heavy lifting, stretching, pulling, climbing, working at heights, extreme weather)
  • Successful candidate MUST be willing and able to report daily to the Hamilton office/shop
  • Current certificates in First Aid, working at heights, Confined Space, and UWPC are assets

Additional information about this role

  • Competitive wage based on experience; starting at $50.00/hr
  • 4-day work week; 10–11 hour shifts
