Job summary

A home care service provider in Oakville, Ontario is seeking a compassionate Personal Care Assistant to support a young adult with Down syndrome. The ideal candidate will assist with personal care tasks, meal preparation, and engage in social activities. A PSW certificate and experience with developmental disabilities are preferred. This role offers a competitive hourly rate of $19.00 - $23.00, and additional training will be provided to ensure caregivers are supported and matched with compatible clients.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.

We are currently seeking a kind, reliable, and patient Personal Care Assistant to support a friendly and active young adult living with Down syndrome. This individual is mobile and enjoys routine, social interaction, and engaging activities, but requires some daily support with personal care and life skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with personal hygiene tasks, including toileting and bathing as needed
  • Support with dressing and grooming
  • Help with meal preparation and light kitchen clean‑up
  • Provide supervision and encouragement during daily activities
  • Engage in social and recreational activities when appropriate
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment
  • Assist with reminders and routines
Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is an asset
  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate or similar background is preferred but not required
  • Compassionate, respectful, and dependable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Additional Information
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset but not required
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check required prior to start
  • Competitive hourly rate based on experience
