General Position Description

Working alongside a team of pastors, the Pastor of Preteens and Youth Ministries will focus on four major areas:

  1. Discipleship of preteens and youth (grades 5 and up).
  2. Development of lay leadership and volunteer teams.
  3. Partnership with parents and guardians.
  4. Outreach to our unchurched, neighbouring preteens and youth.

The Pastor of Preteens and Youth Ministries is expected to be an active member of FBC, a church of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada, and to be involved in community life beyond ministry (e.g., corporate worship, small groups, community events).

This is a full-time position requiring hours per week.

Primary Areas of Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the Pastoral Team to develop ministry plans aligned with the church’s vision, mission, and values.
  2. Provide pastoral leadership to encourage preteens and youth to follow Jesus.
  3. Cultivate a team of Christ-centered lay leaders and volunteers committed to guiding preteens and youth toward Jesus.
  4. Equip parents and guardians as primary disciplers of preteens and youth.
  5. Work with the Pastor of Children’s Ministries and Pastor of Discipleship and Community to develop a cohesive discipleship plan, considering key transitions and milestones.
  6. Partner with the Pastor of Street Ministries to deepen preteens and youth’s understanding of the church’s missional call.
  7. Innovate outreach initiatives to connect with unchurched neighbouring preteens and youth.
  8. Recommend systems, policies, and procedures to ensure the well-being of preteens, youth, and families.
  9. Build partnerships with local youth ministries, faith-based organizations, and community groups.
Other Ministerial / Staff Responsibilities
  1. Participate actively in worship services.
  2. Attend staff meetings, retreats, and church functions as required.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Pastor.
Qualifications
  1. Sincere, maturing faith in Christ.
  2. A pastoral calling to preteens and youth ministries.
  3. Ability to relate personally and socially to preteens, youth, and parents with cultural sensitivity and awareness of adolescent development and faith formation.
  4. Team-oriented with a collaborative work ethic.
  5. Cultural intelligence to lead in a multi-ethnic/international community.
  6. Ability to translate vision and strategy into actionable steps.
  7. M.Div. or equivalent degree preferred.
  8. Minimum of 5 years experience in youth and emerging generation ministries preferred.
Requirements
  1. Adhere to the ministerial policies, procedures, and protocols of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.
  2. Align fully with the church’s mission, vision, values, bylaws, and doctrinal positions.
  3. Model and promote the church’s core values.

Salary Range
