About the Role

The Alberta Federation of Labour is seeking an Office Assistant to provide administrative and front-office support to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the organization. This position involves routine office work, with some responsibility for judgment and decision-making based on established procedures. The successful candidate will be organized, reliable, and comfortable handling a variety of repetitive administrative tasks while supporting staff, members, and the public in a professional and respectful manner. This position reports to the Executive Officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Type routine, non-technical correspondence and reports from rough drafts
  • Operate standard office and mailroom equipment in accordance with established procedures
  • Receive and direct visitors and phone calls to the appropriate staff member
  • Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail
  • Perform other related administrative duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Accurate and proficient typing skills
  • Ability to understand instructions and complete assigned tasks independently
  • Working knowledge of common office procedures and equipment
  • Resourcefulness in addressing new or unfamiliar situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive working relationships with members, the public, and colleagues
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
  • Take initiative to identify opportunities and propose new ideas or projects
  • Perform other related duties as required

Education and Experience

  • Experience working in an office environment
  • Completion of Grade 12 and typing courses, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
