Qualifications

Compensation: $86,000 to $95,000 per year + discretionary annual target bonus at 10% up to a maximum of 15% of base pay.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting and conducting OH&S programs and activities related to the OH&S Management System to meet company safety requirements through day-to-day safety policies and training delivery for employees and management.
  • Conduct OH&S assessments and periodic audits; implement health and safety strategies and action plans; coach and advise management on OH&S policies, procedures, practices and legislative requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by recognizing safety as a value in all priorities and creating a safe work environment through employee involvement and leadership.
  • Coordinate training and program development for industrial and mining establishments: analyze training needs; vendor selection; develop and deliver training presentations; update training records.
  • Support preventative injury initiatives, focusing on Serious Injury or Fatality (SIF) prevention.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and communications on occupational hazards to managers and the workforce; work with stakeholders to minimize risks.
  • Support project teams and supervisors with coaching and mentoring on safety-related items.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Health and Safety Management System with day-to-day safety policies and training delivery.
  • Assist with design of standards, programs, and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury.
  • Implement audits and inspections that verify adherence to policy and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Participate in investigations following serious incidents and injuries; develop corrective action plans and assist with evidence preparation for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Advise on compliance matters with stakeholders regarding municipal, provincial, and federal agencies as needed (MOL, WSIB, etc.).
  • Implement compliance processes related to assessments and surveys (e.g., noise, dust).
  • Provide subject matter expertise and practical solutions to resolve safety issues.
  • Develop and deliver safety training materials; ensure tracking is in place.
  • Prepare and maintain internal and external reports.
  • Lead and support Human Performance investigations; monitor corrective actions and measure effectiveness.
  • Participate in the corporate safety network and help develop corporate standards, best practices, and guidance.
Qualifications
  • University degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in Health and Safety, preferably in the industrial and mining industry
  • Valid Driver’s License (Class G or equivalent)
  • Sound knowledge of OH&S principles, policies, procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of business operating processes and procedures
  • Working knowledge of provincial legislation and regulations WSIA, OHSA
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Ability to conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and assess risks
  • Experience leading investigations into safety events and implementing corrective actions
  • Stays current on regulatory changes and industry best practices
  • Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to coach employees and management through complex safety issues
  • Ability to work independently in a high-paced environment and produce high-quality work
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with local, provincial, and federal regulatory bodies

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing and delivering both theoretical (classroom) and practical (field-based) training programs for critical safety areas, including Heavy Equipment Operation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
