A healthcare provider in Newfoundland is seeking a Nurse Practitioner specialized in Pediatric care with Neonatology education. This permanent full-time role involves providing comprehensive health services in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, collaborating with a healthcare team, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. This position works within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice in the category of Pediatric with specialized education relevant to Neonatology. This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical and autonomous comprehensive health services to patients including, but not limited to, resuscitation, stabilization and management of ill infants; health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses; and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model.
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team, the NP will manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for a select patient population with acute and specialized neonatal and newborn health care needs. This includes performing comprehensive health assessments based on history, physical examination, and additional assessment strategies individualized to patient needs and practice setting; utilizing critical appraisal skills in decisions related to clinical and diagnostic investigations, interventions and care management; applying evidence-based clinical decision-making; performing diagnostic procedures and therapeutics; coordinating activities and functions regarding patient care, progress and outcomes.
The NP will have a key leadership role within the NICU, performing quality improvement work; participating in policy and procedure development; facilitating educational support for patients, families and staff; and serving as a critical member of the clinical leadership team supporting high-quality, evidence-based care for high-risk neonatal patients. The NP must identify the need for change related to clinical, educational or research issues in practice and initiate appropriate action while promoting staff and patient/family satisfaction within a family-centred care philosophy.
The NP clarifies relevant research questions, collaborates, initiates and disseminates research activities; provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practice; and promotes the use of research to evaluate outcomes of care while acting as a leader, resource person, preceptor and mentor for nurses, students and other professionals.
The NICU is a 30-bed Level II and Level III, tertiary referral center for all neonatal services for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as for the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.

Procedures require fine finger/precision work using medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, etc. Visual concentration is required for assessments, charts, readings, and computer work.
