Overview
Story Behind the Need: Global Network Engineering – UC/Telephony – third level support for telephony infrastructure and telephony project migration (end of life migrations, migration of telephony users to new cloud-based telephony platforms). Project: NGN3 Canada Retail Branch refresh – Unified Communications Engineer (Webex). The bank is seeking a Unified Communications Cloud Engineer to support the enterprise-wide migration from an on-prem CUCM system to the Cisco Webex Cloud UCaaS platform. This role focuses on working with the vendor to ensure a smooth transition of telephony services, preserve key integrations, and align with business requirements. A new voice contractor resource is needed to support mass migrations to Webex telephony across 900+ retail branches, starting as of October 2025 with pilot branches.
Responsibilities
- Discovery & Planning: work with the vendor; review and interpret existing PBX configurations, including user profiles, call flows, and system integrations; develop a comprehensive migration plan segmented by business lines and locations.
- Design & Documentation: create/edit Low-Level Design (LLD) aligned with High-Level Design (HLD) and business requirements; design call routing and dial plans; create security design documents, firewall rules, and role-based access control; prepare the support document for day 2 support.
- Implementation & Support: conduct pre-migration testing; establish MoP and change management; validate user data from CUCM/UnityCn; execute user migrations via bulk updates or migration tools/scripts; validate successful cutovers (after business hours); use Oracle SBC tools (e.g., Oracle EOM) for root cause analysis and troubleshooting in the Webex production environment; collaborate with internal teams and with vendors/supporters (Cisco, Oracle, Avaya, Telco).
- Integration: ensure successful integration with on-prem systems such as Verint Recording, Workforce Management (WFM), CDR/Reporting; implement E911; enable Single Sign-On (SSO).
Candidate Requirements / Must Have Skills
- 10+ years of telecoms / telephony experience
- 3+ years of experience with Cisco Webex Cloud, Cisco Webex Control Hub and user migration projects
- 5+ years of experience with enterprise-scale, large CUCM PBX deployments
- 3+ years of experience with SIP trunking and call routing
- 5+ years of experience integrating UC platforms with systems like Verint, Custodia, WFM, E911, and SSO
Nice-To-Have Skills
- Proficiency with Oracle SBC and troubleshooting tools such as Oracle EOM
- Experience with IP network systems and technologies (Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, IP subnetting)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification
Soft Skills Required
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight timelines
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills; ability to work under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to present to executive level
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or a related technical field
- CCNP certification is an asset
Best vs. Average Candidate
- Ideal candidates have strong experience with Cisco Webex Cloud, CUCM PBX, and hands-on expertise with Oracle SBC and related troubleshooting tools
- Concise verbal communication
- 10+ years of telecoms/telephony experience with relevant titles such as unified communications engineer, voice engineer, or network and voice engineer
Candidate Review & Selection
- 2 rounds: first virtual MS Teams interview (30 minutes to 1 hour) with HM, Telecommunications Director, and possibly another engineer; technical discussion and scenario-based questions
- Second round preferred in person (2201 Eglinton Ave East) with HM, Telecommunications Director, and possibly another engineer; deeper skillset and knowledge confirmation
