Municipal Law Enforcement Officer – Student Job

Salary: $19.78 per hour (70 hours bi‑weekly) • Seasonal employment, full‑time

Overview

The position supports municipal law enforcement activities in a rural area, including animal control, parking enforcement, zoning compliance, and public safety investigations. This is a student‑level role providing hands‑on experience for students enrolled full or part time.

Responsibilities
  • Enforce animal control regulations by issuing warnings and citations to owners.
  • Enforce municipal and provincial regulations, including parking by‑laws on city streets, regional roads and municipal properties.
  • Investigate complaints from commercial and residential property owners and occupants, as well as public complaints.
  • Issue citations and warnings to owners.
  • Perform animal control duties such as capturing and impounding lost, homeless and dangerous animals.
  • Prepare accident reports.
  • Respond to citizen complaints concerning stray domestic animals, livestock and wildlife.
  • Investigate properties in violation of zoning and related by‑laws on receipt of building permit applications or requests for licence clearances.
Qualifications
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Student status – full‑time or part‑time enrollment.
  • Valid driver’s licence; vehicle supplied by employer.
  • Criminal record check and driving record check (abstract).
  • Physical ability to handle heavy loads (up to 23 kg), bend, crouch, kneel, stand for extended periods, and work in outdoor, wet/damp environments with odours.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, dependable, accurate, flexible, judgement, team player.

  • Shift options: Morning, Day, Evening, Weekend, with overtime available.
