Overview

Senior Mortgage Underwriter – Private Lending

Location: Moncton, New Brunswick

Are you an experienced mortgage underwriter who thrives on balancing risk with opportunity? Do you enjoy digging into the details, making sound credit decisions, and shaping the client journey from start to finish? If so, this could be your next step.

About the Opportunity
We’re working with a well-established private mortgage lender that’s making waves across Atlantic Canada. Unlike traditional banks, this organization specializes in flexible, tailored financing solutions — helping individuals and businesses access opportunities when conventional options just don’t fit. Their approach is client-first, but always with a sharp eye on compliance and risk management.

Now, they’re looking for a Senior Mortgage Underwriter to join their growing team. This role is all about reviewing, analyzing, and underwriting residential and commercial mortgage applications — ensuring strong decisions are made while supporting a smooth and professional client experience.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Underwriting residential and commercial mortgage applications, assessing creditworthiness, collateral, and overall risk
  • Reviewing financial statements, income documents, credit reports, appraisals, and supporting materials
  • Making timely, well-informed credit decisions aligned with lending policies and regulations
  • Providing clear underwriting recommendations, including approvals and declines
  • Collaborating with brokers, lawyers, and internal teams to support efficient funding processes
  • Staying on top of industry trends and regulatory changes in the private lending space
  • Mentoring junior underwriters or support staff as needed
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of underwriting processes and policies
What We’re Looking For
  • Extensive mortgage underwriting experience, ideally with exposure to both residential and commercial lending
  • A reputation for strong communication skills, accountability, and reliability
  • Someone who is personable, approachable, and client-service oriented
  • Established broker relationships in Southeastern New Brunswick are a strong asset
  • Bilingual in English / French is considered an advantage
  • A team player who is coachable, collaborative, and driven to grow
Why This Role Stands Out
  • Work-life balance: No evenings, weekends, or constant after-hours demands
  • Flexibility: A professional work environment with accountability but room to breathe
  • Impact: Your work directly influences the success of both the company and its clients
  • Growth: A chance to advance quickly and make your mark in a growing industry
  • Support: Work with experienced leaders who value mentorship and collaboration
The Details
  • Region: Operating across NB, NS, and PEI
  • Licensing: Mortgage Associate licensing required by start date (fees reimbursed upon completion)
  • Travel: Occasional travel across Atlantic Canada for meetings and conferences
  • Equipment: Company cell phone and MacBook provided
  • Vacation: 4 weeks annually (with some restrictions in July and August)

Compensation: Competitive and confidential — discussed directly during the hiring process. This is more than a typical underwriting role—it’s a chance to be part of a team that’s reshaping how financing solutions are delivered in Atlantic Canada.
