Job Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Product Development to join our growing team as we bring a breakthrough product to market. This role offers the opportunity to work on a highly complex system that integrates mechanical engineering, materials science, systems engineering, and chemical engineering.

The successful candidate will support the design, prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement of mechanical components and subsystems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in systems, testing, fabrication, manufacturing, and quality assurance. This position is ideal for a mechanical engineer with 3–5 years of experience who is eager to expand their skills in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.

We are seeking someone who is curious, hands‑on, and adaptable — someone who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges while helping us move quickly from concept to product launch.

Core Competencies
  • Strong foundation in mechanical design and product development.
  • Proficiency in CAD and CAE tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, AutoCAD).
  • Familiarity with FEA and CFD simulation tools.
  • Hands‑on experience with prototyping and testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communicator, comfortable working in cross‑functional teams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for prototyping and production.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic startup environment
Job Duties
  • Support the design and development of products, parts, and components from concept through production.
  • Create and modify CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Conduct simulations and analyses to validate mechanical performance.
  • Participate in prototyping activities, including assembly and testing of components and systems.
  • Work with systems engineering to define requirements and ensure mechanical designs meet specifications.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues, recommending improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and codes (ASME, CSA, API, TSSA).
  • Document designs, results, and engineering processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related discipline.
  • Eligibility for, or working toward, P.Eng. designation (Ontario).
  • 3–5 years of experience in mechanical product development, ideally involving complex systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion 360).
  • Knowledge of materials (metals, polymers, composites) and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel between Kitchener and Sarnia offices.
Additional Assets
  • Experience in energy, power generation, automotive, or aerospace industries.
  • Familiarity with corrosion, oxidation, and heat exchanger design.
  • Experience commissioning and troubleshooting complex fluid systems.
  • Knowledge of project management and cost estimation practices.
  • Experience with FEA/CFD tools for stress and flow analysis.
Working Conditions
  • Travel may be required.
  • Ability to attend and present at meetings.
  • Hands‑on prototyping work may involve manual tools, 3D printers, or laser cutters.
  • Occasional overtime as needed.
  • Lifting or moving up to 10 lbs may be required.
