What will you be doing!
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring programs and processes to identify, mitigate, and remediate operational risks in a timely manner.
  • Developing strategic plans in collaboration with customers to improve service efficiency and reliability.
  • Identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement in program materials and ensuring the development or revision of program elements.
  • Promoting safe work practices, good housekeeping, and a culture that minimizes or eliminates safety incidents.
  • Maintaining a skilled, effective, and motivated workforce through recruiting, training, and supervision of professional, technical, administrative, and contract staff, including developing position descriptions, training plans, and performance assessments.
  • Managing the departmental budget to ensure adherence to project budgets, schedules, and QA requirements, including evaluating, recommending, and justifying non-routine expenditures and resource adjustments.
  • Supporting proactive and ongoing counsel and coaching to managers and employees on Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and Industrial Hygiene (IH) requirements to ensure safe work practices and appropriate incident resolution.
  • Monitoring trends and regularly reporting on incident management status, supporting line management in identifying preventative actions and ensuring effective incident resolution.
  • Initiating and supporting teamwork and collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  • Planning and implementing change in a feasible manner that maintains stakeholder commitment and engagement.
  • Providing advice on resource utilization and emerging technologies within the OSH field.
  • Conducting ongoing observation, coaching, performance management, appraisals, and evaluations.
  • Optimizing employee talent and capability by developing skills that support business objectives and increase individual contribution.
  • Managing personnel time management, staffing allocation, and overtime resources in response to operational needs.
  • Forecasting staffing requirements, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and initial and ongoing training.
What we are looking for!
Education:
  • University degree in a related field of study, or 7 years of experience in a relevant technical/operational work environment at the management level.

  • Has or is willing and able to acquire Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.

Experience:
  • Experienced in management with strong people, problem solving, analytical skills and advanced technical knowledge.

  • Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills for the development of program content, procedures, and data manipulation.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong working knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and Manitoba Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations.

  • Experience with development, implementation, presentation and evaluation of programs, particularly in a laboratory, construction and demolition environment.

  • Able to identify hazards within industrial work environments, including process systems and components, machine tools and heavy equipment.

  • Industrial hygiene knowledge in areas such as hazardous chemicals/WHMIS, noise, heat- stress, confined space entry and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C).

  • Motivated, self-starting, detail oriented and exceptional organizational skills for managing multiple and concurrent projects (both short and long term).

Working Environment:
  • Combination of office based and field level work including working indoors and outdoors in inclement weather and temperatures from +30C to -40C.

  • Prolonged periods of sedentary office work.

  • May be required to adapt to changing work schedules based on the needs of the project.
