Position: Manager, Building Operations

Department: Facility Operations & Engineering

Reports to: Director, Arena Operations

Position Summary

The Manager, Building Operations ensures the efficient and cost‑effective operation of the facility. Key responsibilities include overseeing day‑to‑day ice operations and building preparations for all events at Rogers Arena. The incumbent will be responsible for repairs and maintenance and will ensure that health and safety requirements are met. The Manager of Building Operations is also responsible for supervising five full‑time Building Operators and contracted services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ice installation, maintenance, and removal
  • Schedule and follow up on preventative maintenance tasks for mechanical, refrigeration, and other operational equipment within the building
  • Complete reports relating to ice quality, mechanical, and refrigeration operation
  • Represent the Engineering department as Building Operations Management during events
  • Initiate, develop, and implement programs and systems relating to facility and equipment maintenance, including preventative maintenance and management
  • Monitor and evaluate revenue and expenditures status on an on‑going basis, preparing budget summaries and analysis as required
  • Manage a team of Building Operators in a pro‑active and professional manner, striving for 100% employee satisfaction
  • Provide input to the capital budgeting process
  • Provide input in developing department operating procedures manual and ensure procedures are adhered to within department
  • Liaise with Event Services and Game Entertainment departments to ensure event requirements are supported
  • Provide back‑up support for vacation and other relief for team members
Required Experience And Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience in a supervisory role at a multi‑purpose Arena.
  • At least five years of experience in ice maintenance and related ice‑making equipment operations
  • Fourth‑Class Power Engineering Certificate or Refrigeration Operator Certificate is preferred.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a physical plant and systems
  • Strong and proactive supervisory skills in a unionized environment
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices associated with the area of facility maintenance and operations
  • Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office
  • Outstanding time management skills including the ability to prioritize clients, projects, and resources
