Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician carries out those activities required to maintain and correct damage and make repairs to physical buildings, structures, and facilities. Additionally, this person will do a variety of work involving equipment use such as ladders and scissor lifts and will also be responsible for routine general repair work.

Responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of basic trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, lighting and general HVAC).
  • Ability to problem-solve under pressure during live events.
  • Professional demeanor — understanding the museum is a guest-facing, high-standard environment.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and comfort with late-night / extended hours.
  • Monitor and adjust building systems during events for comfort and safety.
  • Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Works daily with a computerized maintenance management system to enter, close and record work orders
  • Monitors and escorts as necessary subcontractor personnel
  • Replaces receptacles, lamps, ballasts etc.
  • Repairs and replaces sinks, toilets, and faucets
  • Troubleshoots, repairs pumps and motors
  • Performs interior painting
  • Modifies and repairs interior / exterior walls systems, roof systems, floorcoverings, windows and window coverings
  • Repairs doors and hardware
  • Performs minor locksmith duties as needed
  • Cleans work area, tools, and equipment
  • Regular day shift, M-F but position may involve emergency call out on an as-needed basis
  • Assist other maintenance technicians
  • Ability to withstand various weather conditions: occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions; requires work to be done both inside and outside
  • Ability to withstand noise levels: the noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere; some machinery noise areas
  • All other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of directly related commercial facilities and / or building maintenance experience
  • Strong work ethic
  • Strong connection to First American community preferred

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Patient and flexible with a focus on positive visitor experience

  • Has the ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and / or ratios; read diagrams, and technical manuals; write documents following prescribed formats; and / or present information to others
  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English
  • Can understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
  • Has the ability to work independently and collaboratively, using judgment and discretion to complete job duties, projects, and assignments
  • Valid driver’s license
Supervision

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Facilities Manager or other personnel as directed by the Executive Director.

Guidelines

The Maintenance Technician is to adhere to the policies and ethics of FAM at all times. Employee shall wear the Facilities uniform as per policy and asks for assistance on any matters or answers to any questions not covered by this job description.
