Job summary

A regional school board in Ontario is seeking a Maintenance Electrician for a full-time position. The successful candidate will have a valid Ontario Electrical Journeyperson Certificate along with extensive electrical experience. Responsibilities include maintaining existing electrical systems, installing circuits, and preparing cost estimates. 1.0 Maintenance 1 - Electrician

Location: Southern Area Schools

Base Location: Kirkland Lake

Start date: December 17, 2025

Vacancy Details: 1.0 (Permanent/full-time, 40 hours/week - 7:00am to 3:00pm)

Immediate Supervisor's Title: Building Supervisor

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Must have a good working knowledge of techniques, equipment and tools used in the electrical trade
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and electrical schematic diagrams
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in the electrical systems
  • Familiar with HVAC systems and Building Automation Control Systems
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively and maintain progress reports
  • Maintaining all necessary electrical inspection reports
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work
  • Repairing, maintaining and testing existing systems and equipment
  • Installing new circuits, lighting, receptacles, etc. as required
  • Preparing material and cost estimates required to complete work orders
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Valid Ontario Electrical Journeyperson Certificate
  • Electrical license
  • 8 to 10 years of commercial electrical experience
  • Valid Class-G Ontario driver's license
  • Must have own vehicle to get to work sites
  • Currently working in the trade
  • Demonstrated experience as an electrician and in related building maintenance
  • A valid Globally Harmonized System (GHS) certificate would be considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of the Electrical Code
  • Training in lock-out/tag-out, arc flash, fall-arrest, and elevating platform lifts would be an asset
  • Fire alarm and security system experience is an asset

Salary as per the current CUPE collective agreement
