Job Description
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables
  • Inspect machined parts and tooling to maintain quality control standards
  • Inspect, test, and adjust new and reworked tools, dies, gauges, jigs and fixtures for conformance to specifications, e.g., dimensions, tolerances, and hardness
  • Work for machinery, equipment, motor vehicle, automotive parts, aircraft, and other metal products manufacturing companies and for machine shops
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, coordinate measuring machines (CMM) or other specialized measuring instruments
  • Apply knowledge of tool and die design, shop mathematics, and machining and testing procedures, using precision measuring instruments, testing equipment, and hand tools
  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor and complete and maintain inspection reports
  • Examine defective parts to determine cause of defect and recommend changes or modifications
  • Work in wood manufacturing and food processing plants, as well as in refineries
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools and verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • Write reports regarding inspection and testing results
