Job description

Are you a Civil Engineer passionate about structural works, looking to break away from the mold of large, impersonal firms? Do you hold your "Ingénieur Responsable de l'Inspection" (IRI) qualification, or are you on track to obtain it?

Founded by industry experts, this human‑scale company stands out for its close‑knit culture, cutting‑edge technical expertise, and flexibility. Unlike in large structures, here you are not just a number: you are a potential partner. In fact, the firm is actively looking for its future associates.

If you want to combine technical challenges, hourly remuneration (with paid overtime), and real advancement opportunities, this engineering and design role is for you.

Job Description

As a Civil Engineer - Inspection (IRI), you will play a key role within an expert team dedicated to bridges, dams, maritime infrastructures, and roads. Your mission will be split primarily between inspection/report writing (80%) and surveillance/design (20%). You will work on major projects for key clients such as the Ministry of Transportation of Quebec (MTQ) and the Société des traversiers, utilizing state‑of‑the‑art technology.

We are looking for a professional capable of managing projects from A to Z, from initial planning to presenting results to the client. You will join a team where technical expertise is valued, and where continuous training is not only encouraged but fully funded.

Please note: While this job description is in English, the working language and reporting language is French. Functional knowledge of technical English is an asset for consulting standards, but an impeccable mastery of French is required.

Advantages
  • Competitive Compensation: Hourly wage between $45 and $60/hr based on experience.
  • Paid Overtime: Overtime hours are paid at time‑and‑a‑half (or banked).
  • Bonuses: Annual performance bonus (between 5% and 20% of salary), paid in two installments.
  • Career Path: Real opportunity to become an associate/partner within the company.
  • Continuous Learning: Funding for training, including university studies.
  • Flexibility: Flexible schedule, hybrid mode, and tools adapted for remote work.
  • Benefits: Complete group insurance (flexible choices) and RRSP with employer contribution (4%).
  • Location: Modern offices in downtown Montreal, close to public transport.
  • Fees Covered: OIQ dues and professional association fees paid.
Responsibilities
  • Manage inspection projects by planning and coordinating interventions with all stakeholders involved.
  • Perform general and detailed inspections and conduct damage surveys on bridges and structural works (visual inspection, working at heights, etc.).
  • Perform structural modeling to evaluate load‑bearing capacity.
  • Write inspection reports, evaluations, technical expertise documents, and specialized studies with high rigor.
  • Present results, technical analyses, and recommendations to clients.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement by developing procedures, IT tools, and internal training documents.
  • Prepare calls for tenders, including strategic planning and cost estimation.
  • Actively participate in project kickoff and follow‑up meetings.
Qualifications

Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Advanced Excel) and Microsoft Project.
  • Excellent understanding of structural behavior and material degradation phenomena.
  • Superior writing skills and impeccable mastery of French (oral and written) are mandatory.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces (inspection via climbing or aerial lift).
  • Natural leadership, scientific rigor, and professionalism in client relations.
  • In‑depth knowledge of MTQ standards and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering (Master's is an asset).
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years of relevant experience in the inspection or evaluation of bridges and structural works.
  • Hold the "Ingénieur Responsable de l'Inspection" (IRI) qualification or possess the prerequisites (60,000 m² inspected) to obtain it quickly.
  • Valid driver's license (travel required for inspections).
  • ASP Construction card (Health and Safety on construction sites).
Summary

Seize this unique chance to propel your career within a human‑scale firm that truly values your expertise. By joining this team of experts in engineering and design, you gain access not only to stimulating projects on Quebec's structural works but also to transparent remuneration (hourly pay with overtime) and a clear path to partnership.
