This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

The Project

You’ll be the lead developer of a team that will be responsible for implementing a backend platform for the collection, processing, routing, and storage of analytical data from our websites and mobile applications. This platform will be fully hosted on Azure and must support a high load of messages. The architecture must interface with several third-party data analysis applications as well as a data lake.

This opportunity is a chance to join the Digital Media team, where a significant initiative to modernize Radio-Canada\'s digital ecosystem is underway to make it more resilient in a changing media landscape. This work involves close collaboration with several sectors and will contribute to building the future of the public broadcaster.

Your Role

As a Lead Developer, with your experience and advanced technical knowledge, you will act as a technical expert for your product and will be the interface between your team and the management team of digital development. Working closely with the project manager, your role is to ensure the smooth execution of the development efforts for the product. You’ll coordinate the technical work required to deliver the requested features, while adhering to the standards and practices agreed to by the development management team. To be successful in this role, you must be “ok” with the thought of coding between 0% and 50% of the time. Your development tasks include building proofs of concept and the various tools your team will need during the development and should not include work items directly related to the current sprint. You are the oil in the engine that allows the development wheel to run smoothly for the product. As a member of the leadership team for the product, your role is to support the developers in the team but also the other leaders of the team in the successful delivery of their tasks.

Your responsibilities
  • Accountable for the integrity of all systems built by the team and must also understand them all.
  • Guide developers in their search for the right technical implementation instead of providing them with the solution to implement.
  • Ensure that the task breakdown and work estimates are done correctly by developers by pairing with them regularly.
  • Contribute to writing stories by refining them and making sure they clearly express the requirements and edge cases and not the solution itself.
  • Ensure that developers aren’t blocked.
  • Know the state of each task in the sprint for each member of the team.
  • Ensure that the sequencing of tasks is optimal with regard to planned work.
  • Ensure that code reviews are made according to the good practices.
  • Help technical staff in increasing their skills.
  • Ensure that all team members participate and understand what’s being discussed in a technical meeting.
  • Ensure that the team’s best practices not only continue but also evolve.
  • Helps the PM in the project planning.
  • Communicate risks and technical issues to other members of the leadership team within the project.
  • Responsible for monitoring technological trends for the project and help in planning how to use his findings.
  • When an employee represents an issue or a risk in the project, he raises the flag to this employee’s manager.
  • Demonstrate the cost of the technical debt and the value in correcting it to the other leadership team members.
  • In charge of the technical coordination with another team’s architect or lead developer.
  • Ensure that the technical onboarding of new members is effectively done.
  • Ensure that the deployment plan is available (do it or delegate doing it) and that it be understood and usable by all team members.
Qualifications
  • Five to eight years of experience in a similar role.
  • In depth knowledge of application development using C# but also .NET Core.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team and be diplomatic.
  • Ability to explain complex technical questions simply.
  • Good judgment, sense of initiative and independence.
  • Having mastered the concepts behind building resilient and scalable APIs.
  • Flexibility, initiative, dynamism.
  • Thoroughness, autonomy, resourcefulness.
  • Excellent ability to manage stress and priorities.
  • Analytical mind.
  • French is mandatory, English is an asset.
