About the Role

The Laboratory Supervisor, Nursing oversees the department lab team and provides in-house support to afternoon and evening lab coordinators across BScN and BNMN programs. The incumbent coordinates recruitment and retention activities, supports students in developing clinical skills, and assists with open practice, self-referral, formal remediation, and clinical re-entry processes. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for designing, implementing, coordinating, testing and maintaining laboratory components while providing safe, quality laboratory demonstrations for students in the courses.

The Laboratory Supervisor, Nursing will
  • Supervise and support afternoon and evening lab coordinators, ensuring smooth operations during extended hours;
  • Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, and readiness, including setup and teardown between sessions;
  • Ensure health and safety policies and procedures are followed and that safety is maintained within the lab, addressing, logging, and reporting safety issues;
  • Inspect and manage lab equipment, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate repairs or replacements in collaboration with internal and external partners;
  • Manage laboratory resources, including conducting inventory of materials required for demonstrations;
  • Source and liaise with sales reps for new equipment and quotes;
  • Manage course fee requirements for lab courses;
  • Manage the nursing lab email account and serve as the primary contact for lab-related inquiries;
  • Work with course instructor/faculty to design, develop and prepare lab demonstrations that are current and relevant to the course curricula (i.e., designing, testing, researching, revising lab manuals, etc.);
  • Collaborate with the course Instructor/Faculty to ensure laboratory-lecture synchronization;
  • Perform demonstrations/experiments and direct students through laboratory activities, including explaining, observing, correcting, and guiding throughout, ensuring quality and consistency in laboratory delivery;
  • Facilitate student feedback on lab experiences and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Provide support for recruitment initiatives (e.g., organize and conduct annual lab tours for Fall Preview Day, April Open House, etc.);
  • Mentor and train lab team members, supporting onboarding and professional development.
Key Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Nursing or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Currently a Registered Nurse (in good standing) with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Demonstrated team leadership/supervisory experience;
  • Teaching experience and nursing-related simulation experience;
  • Skilled in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting simulation and lab equipment, including high- and mid-fidelity simulators;
  • Proficient in designing and facilitating clinical simulations aligned with nursing curriculum;
  • Demonstrates clinical nursing skills confidently and accurately;
  • Knowledgeable in nursing legislation, clinical standards, and best practices in nursing education;
  • Experienced in inventory management, equipment purchasing, and record keeping;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and adaptable to both in-person and virtual environments;
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community;
  • Strong ability to coach, mentor, and motivate students and staff;
  • Capable of identifying student learning needs and tailoring support strategies;
  • Applies academic regulations and safety protocols to maintain integrity and safety in lab environments;
  • Effective in planning, organizing, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Preferred or Asset Skills
  • Graduate degree in Nursing, Education, or a closely related field;
  • Experience with simulated laboratory learning or certification(s) related to simulation-based learning;
  • Maintenance and care of simulation and medical equipment.
Salary and Total Rewards
  • Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($73,245-$118,776);
  • Target Hiring Range: $80,000-$90,000*
