Edson, with a population of 8646, is a town in west-central Alberta, located in Yellowhead County, 192 kilometres west of Edmonton. The Town of Edson's strategic location on the Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway allows Edson to benefit from private, commercial, and industrial traffic. This highway carries some of the heaviest traffic flow in Alberta, with a summer daily traffic flow of approximately 9,900 vehicles. Edson offers a variety of recreational facilities, including the widely popular Kinsmen Spray Park where you can take the kids to cool down on a hot summer day. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.
