About The Position

The main duty of this position is to prepare the slides and pucks for analysis in the Mineralogy Lab using standard procedures. Other duties include computer data entry, maintenance and janitorial duties in the lab area.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Operate and perform maintenance on grinder, polisher, carbon coater, pressure vessel oven;
  • Ensure all prepared and available samples are accounted for in the lab;
  • Prioritize workloads according to daily stats and turnaround commitments;
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns to the Supervisor or Manager;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Assistance in other lab areas with sample preparation tasks as required;
  • Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Detail oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality;
  • Organized, highly motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical tasks;
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Capable in MS Office, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma;
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of technical or university level education in Science preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours per day;
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs;
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
