Overview

We're looking for a Lab Research Assistant to join our team at the Seed Quality Analysis Laboratory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. You’ll be using research equipment and methods to help support the Canola Breeding Pipeline, all while keeping things safe and up to quality standards. This is a permanent role based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Smartpark lab.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Receiving, sorting, cleaning, and scanning seed samples.
  • Preparing and analyzing samples using NIR, GC, and flow cytometry.
  • Keeping lab equipment well-maintained and calibrated.
  • Organizing seed inventory and keeping research records in order.
  • Getting involved in process improvement projects.
  • Following all quality and safety procedures and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Keeping the workplace tidy and organized.
  • Assisting in creating task-related documents and reviewing processes.
  • Helping out with other projects and tasks as needed.
Who You Are
  • You’ve got a degree or diploma in agricultural/chemistry/biological science or a related field.
  • You have experience with NIR and GC analysis.
  • You’re comfortable with computer software, particularly Microsoft Office (including SharePoint and Teams), and know how to write and maintain macros.
  • You can work well in a diverse, multidisciplinary research team.
  • You’re highly motivated and results-driven, and you know how to get people on board to achieve those results.
  • You have a keen eye for detail and can work accurately.
  • You’re organized and know how to prioritize your daily tasks.
  • You’re flexible and eager to learn new procedures.
  • You can explain complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • You’re good at problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • You can lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to support other teams, as required.
