    The opportunity

    Based in our office in Toronto, the Investment Analyst will be an integral part of the High Conviction Equities (“HCE”) team and focus on global TMT public equities. The HCE TMT team is responsible for a highly concentrated portfolio that delivers outsized idiosyncratic returns. The Analyst will support senior investment professionals in analyzing potential investment opportunities, buildout data analytic tools and help with monitoring TMT companies under coverage.

    Who you will work with

    The Equities department is responsible for leading the fund’s $40B+ private and public equity portfolios. This opportunity is with the High Conviction Equities (HCE) team, which invests in public and near-public companies globally and across most sectors. HCE is a long-term oriented, bottom-up stock picking team with a strong emphasis on deep industry knowledge, valuation, forecasting and modeling. Reporting to a Managing Director in the team, the Investment Analyst will gain valuable insight into formulating and executing on investment theses, get exposure to different industries under the TMT umbrella, and learn about portfolio management and risk management practices from a team of seasoned investment professionals.

    What you will do

    Working with the senior investment professionals in HCE, you will:

    • Analyze and evaluate potential investment opportunities within the TMT space (including Media, Software, Hardware and Semiconductors)
    • Create tools to compile and present data sets to help assess underlying macroeconomic trends and business conditions
    • Generate practical investment insights from bottom-up research on business models, key value drivers and investment risks
    • Develop detailed financial models clearly identifying recommended valuation range, critical business drivers, sensitivity analysis etc.
    • Prepare comprehensive investment memos clearly articulating industry insights, investment thesis and recommendation for the senior leadership team
    • Generate bespoke industry analysis in collaboration with the team. Monitor industry developments and disseminate relevant information to the team
    • Actively participate in meetings with TMT company management teams and outside experts
    • Support Ontario Teachers’ office-wide initiatives
    • Occasional travel for industry conferences and management meetings

    What you bring

    • An undergraduate degree with a heavy focus on Business or Data Analytics
    • Enrollment in the CFA program is considered a strong asset
    • Minimum 1-2 years related work experience, ideally in equity research, investment banking, data analytics, corporate business development or consulting
    • Advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills are a requirement
    • Advanced experience with Python is considered a strong asset
    • Experience building three-statement models and developing forecasts and valuations
    • Outstanding attention to detail and ability to take ownership of tasks
    • Analytical rigor and intellectual curiosity are critical
    • Strong social and communication skills, both oral and written
    • Ability to incorporate “real world” considerations into analysis and recommendations
    • Ability to conduct independent work with minimal direct supervision
    • Ability to demonstrate skeptical critical thinking and to generate independent insights from research process
    • Willing / able to travel internationally
