Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking an Intermediate Accountant for their Markham office. The successful candidate will prepare financial statements, assist with audits, and mentor junior staff. Candidates should have at least 2 years of public accounting experience and strong communication skills. Familiarity with QuickBooks and CPA designation is preferred.

Job description

Our client is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join their Markham office. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing notice to readers, review engagements, and assisting on audit engagements where required, preparation of income distribution slips in February and March, preparation of personal tax returns in April, and providing other accounting, tax, assurance, and related services as required. The candidate will report directly to senior managers and partners and mentor junior staff as needed.

The successful candidate should have a minimum of two years of direct public accounting experience.

Responsibilities
  • Performing Notice to Readers and Reviews and some sections of Audit files (as required), and preparation of year-end corporate tax returns, T3, T4, and T5 summaries
  • Assisting with CRA audits and queries and liaising with CRA on assessments and appeals
  • Utilizing accounting knowledge to provide advice to clients on various matters as required
  • Performing tax research and integrated tax planning on various matters as required
  • Communicating with clients, CRA, partners, and staff effectively on an ongoing basis
  • Fostering and maintaining positive relationships with clients
  • Billing, budgeting, and billing reconciliations as required
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Public Accounting, preferably in a small to mid-sized firm environment
  • Familiarity with investment holding company accounting write-ups, reconciliations, and taxation
  • Completed, or in the process of completing CPA designation preferred
  • Previous experience with small/owner-managed businesses
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional technical skills and attention to detail
  • Expertise in using QuickBooks, CaseWare, Profile, and Microsoft Office
