Job Summary

We are looking for a Full Time Instrumentation & Controls Technician to join our team at the Burnaby Hospital in Burnaby, B.C.

As an ideal candidate, you bring experience in building automation systems (BAS), HVAC, DDC, and VFD.

What We're Looking For
  • Qualifications: Graduate of a recognized program in electronic technology.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years' recent field experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Industry and vendor equipment certifications as required.
Responsibilities
  1. Designs and builds electronic circuits by acquiring parts, assembling components and wiring equipment; installs, tests, adjusts and commissions the modification; generates appropriate drawings and documentation.
  2. Tests, identifies faults, calibrates and repairs computerized hardware, solid state logic boards and related equipment of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system.
  3. Designs and implements solutions to issues and problems by reviewing work requests and consulting with user departments regarding specifications and other project requirements; interprets existing or prepares new sketches, diagrams or schematic drawings in order to determine the sequence of operations, the project's scope and required materials and equipment; calculates materials and labour in estimating the cost of projects and makes recommendations as required; maintains systems to ensure optimal performance.
  4. Carries out preventative maintenance on all electronic components of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system by cleaning, testing, calibrating and replacing parts as required; maintains appropriate documentation.
  5. Liaises with manufacturers and suppliers to determine the availability and cost of systems/parts. Where required, obtains guidance on their installation and use; assesses factors such as condition, age and functionality in order to determine repair, modification or replacement; prepares for work projects by performing operational and safety risk assessments; arranges work schedules with user departments and assembles supplies, tools and equipment.
  6. Modifies existing computer applications by, for example, inputting instructions, making adjustments to data bases and/or programs.
  7. Evaluates computerized hardware and related equipment of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system for technical acceptance to ensure conformance with specifications, correcting faults where necessary.
  8. Investigates and solves user-complaints, as identified by engineers, in the maintenance and repair of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system.
  9. Instructs staff in the operation of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system.
  10. Tests, identifies faults, calibrates and repairs pneumatic instrumentation associated with steam boilers.
  11. Provides technical support to staff to resolve problems with electronic systems by analyzing, testing and repairing electronic components.
  12. Liaises with outside contractors to ensure adherence to contract specifications and facility requirements.
  13. Maintains an inventory and recommends purchases of supplies, equipment and tools; completes related reports and records.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of a recognized program in electronic technology plus five (5) years recent field experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Industry and vendor equipment certifications as required.
