About Alberta Operations

Dow's Alberta Operations in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, is a hub for world-scale production, manufacturing hydrocarbons, polyethylene, and electricity. As one of Dows largest facilities in Canada, it serves a vast global customer base. These operations are crucial in supporting Dows Path2Zero (P2Z) initiative, aiming to establish the worlds first net-zero emissions site. This project is a pivotal step in Dows broader Decarbonization Strategy.

About the Role

We're looking for Industrial Equipment Operators to support our operations in facilities including Hydrocarbons, Solution Polyethylene, Gas Phase Polyethylene, and Power & Utilities. In this role, you'll help optimize plant performance by:

  • Monitoring process equipment and plant conditions to ensure peak operational efficiency
  • Conducting field checks and adjusting control systems both manually and automatically
  • Isolating and preparing machinery for maintenance
  • Adhering to Dow's Operating Discipline, policies, and Life Critical Standards
  • Demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills
Facility-Specific Responsibilities
Hydrocarbons
  • Involve processing technologies like fractional distillation, cracking furnaces, steam turbines, and cryogenic processes
  • Opportunities to work towards 3rd and 2nd class certifications in specific areas
  • Collaborate in teams of 10+ operators
Solution Polyethylene
  • Operate processes involving reaction catalysts, flash drums, and vacuum systems
  • Safely manage hydrocarbons in the plant environment
  • Progress toward 3rd class certification through on-job experience
Gas Phase Polyethylene
  • Manage reaction and catalyst operations in a gas phase environment
  • Work with flammable hydrocarbons
  • Progress to 4th class certification through ABSA applications
  • Travel for extended periods to facilities in New Orleans, LA, USA, and Prentiss, AB, Canada for specialized training
Power and Utilities
  • Support natural gas and hydrogen cogeneration units, heat recovery steam generators, and water treatment operations
  • Progress to 3rd and 2nd class certifications in operational roles
  • Work closely in teams of around 5 operators
Responsibilities Across All Areas
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize plant operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain safety and operational efficiency
  • Follow Dows policies for Environmental, Health, and Safety compliance
  • Participate in 12-hour rotating shifts once plant commissioning starts (anticipated late 2026)
  • Dedicate approximately 3 years to day shift training, ensuring skill development and readiness
  • Travel may be required for specialized training and certification opportunities
Physical Requirements
  • Physically fit to work in confined spaces, low visibility, and extreme temperatures
  • Comfortable working with full PPE, respirators, SCBA, and safety harnesses
  • Lift materials weighing approximately 50 pounds
  • Required to join the Emergency Response Brigade, including live fire and rope rescue exercises
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Progressing toward an ABSA 4th class certification or higher
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • A current and valid Canadian Drivers License
  • Eligible to work legally in Canada (no visa support available)
Preferred Qualifications
  • A two-year diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology or Power Engineering Technology
  • 1+ year of operational experience, including Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, or Process Operations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
