Job summary

A regional health authority in Manitoba is seeking an Indigenous Community Worker to support First Nations, Métis, and Inuit clients in accessing culturally safe mental health and addictions care. The role involves collaboration with the Mobile Withdrawal Management Services team, requiring cultural knowledge, communication skills, and a valid driver's license. Candidates with at least two years of experience working with Indigenous individuals are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with Indigenous people in a social service setting.
  • Proficiency in a local Indigenous language (Ojibway, Dakota, Cree).
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Indigenous clients in navigating the mental health and addictions system.
  • Facilitate communication between clients, families, and health care providers.
  • Participate in care meetings to ensure culturally focused support.

Skills

Knowledge of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous services
Knowledge of health issues impacting Indigenous communities
Proficiency in a local Indigenous language (Ojibway, Dakota, Cree)
Interpersonal and communication skills
Problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently
Initiative and anticipation of needs
Respect for confidentiality

Education

Grade twelve (12) high school education or equivalent
