The Opportunity

Accountabilities
  • Assist the HR Advisory team in the day to day support of frontline managers, promoting the effective use of HR policies and programs
  • Facilitate internal and external hiring processes in accordance with applicable legislation and collective agreement language
  • Lead managers in the recruitment and selection of qualified individuals in order to meet departmental staffing requirements
  • Perform System Administrator function for e‑recruit software including evaluating, updating, and liaising with vendor and other internal and external parties to ensure the product continues to meet organizational needs in consultation with the HRIS team.
  • Retain a thorough and up to date knowledge of HR practices, legislation, collective agreements & policies to respond to employee and management inquiries
  • Support HR Advisors in preparation for internal and external initiatives including information sessions, job evaluation, collective bargaining, grievance mediation, arbitration, etc.
  • Contribute to the development & delivery of HR policies, programs & initiatives through researching best practice, drafting and creating related documents
  • Compile and document HR process & procedures, prepare & maintain handbooks and reference tools to support streamlined HR functions
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of position descriptions
  • Provide timely and accurate information to HRIS coordinators to ensure seamless transactional processing
  • Contribute to overall effectiveness by performing other HR related tasks as required

Qualifications
  • Diploma / Degree in Business (human resources concentration preferred) or related field from a recognized University or College program.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience in providing human resources services in a complex unionized environment (experience conducting employee recruitment and selection, applicant tracking systems, employee/labour relations, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Effective organization and planning abilities with strong attention to detail and the ability to establish priorities to effectively manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Client service oriented with a high degree of responsiveness, tact, discretion and an appreciation for confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision, but also be able to work as a team member and easily adapt to new work methods and procedures.
Hours of Work

Monday - Friday

9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The City of St. John's has a flexible work protocol which may apply to this position and is entirely operationally dependent.
