Intent of the process

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may also be established to fill current and future vacancies with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, security requirements, and conditions of employment in various locations within the Department of National Defence.

Essential qualifications are qualifications that you must meet in order to be considered for the position. This means that when you apply, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience listed below.

Occupational Certification
  • Possession of a valid applicable provincial/territorial, or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Trade Certificate in one or more of the following:
  • Plumbing
  • Steamfitting/Pipefitting
  • Sheet Metal
  • Carpentry
  • Painting
  • Electrical
  • Electrical Generating Systems
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Tile setting

OR

  • An applicable military QL5 qualification or higher. Note: A military qualification of QL5 or higher will be accepted for the purpose of being eligible to be placed in a pool or inventory. However, for some locations, the applicant will be required to obtain Journeyperson Certification in the applicable trade prior to a term or indeterminate appointment.

Degree equivalency

Experience

EX1: Experience in repair, maintenance, inspection or installation of systems and equipment related to the trade(s) to be filled. Other qualifications may be required relevant to the position being staffed. You may be contacted and asked to submit information or to be further assessed.

Conditions of employment

  • Various Security Profiles In Accordance With Position Being Staffed – Reliability Security Status, Secret Security Clearance
  • Willing and able to wear PPE
  • A valid, unrestricted provincial driver’s licence holding a qualification (class) equivalent to the DND vehicle to be driven/operated
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain the DND 404 military driver’s licence
  • Current and acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Strict adherence to the Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Code of Values and Ethics, Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector, and DAOD 7021-1; Candidates must meet and maintain the conditions of employment throughout their employment

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
