Responsibilities

  • Administer staff consultation and grievance procedures
  • Assign projects to subordinates and staff related to work safety, environmental safety and accident prevention.
  • Direct and control daily operations
  • Evaluate daily operations
  • Motivate staff
  • Plan and organize daily operations
  • Provide information / training to employers, employees and general public
  • Review HR directives to assure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
  • Train staff
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures
  • Inspect workplaces for safety or health hazards
  • Investigate workplace accidents or illnesses
  • Manage training and development strategies
  • Oversee the analysis of employee data and information
  • Develop and implement health and safety plans
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
  • Respond to employee questions and complaints
  • Coaching
  • Evaluate work environments, programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury
  • Plan safety programs
  • Examine plans, drawings and site layouts
  • Ensure compliance to drawings, specifications and building codes
  • Inspect existing buildings for structural defects and fire hazards
  • Inspect to ensure that safe working conditions are maintained

Education

  • Post-secondary education in the field (university or college, construction-related or safety / HR)

Requirements of the position :

  • At least 3 years of experience
  • Able to work independently
  • Experience coordinating and supervising more than 20 people
  • Experience in investigating and inspecting work-related accidents on construction sites
  • Valid driver’s license (vehicle supplied by the employer)
  • First Aid Certificate
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) program
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
