Greek Market Cafe, located in the Greek Market Corner Plaza on 60 King Road, redefines the concept of market and café with the convenience of the best products imported right from Greece for you to enjoy. We are a "taste of Greece in Oak Ridges". We are an artisan style bakery specializing in Greek sweets, coffee, gelato and authentic Greek market. Our unique concept makes us a tasty one stop destination shop.

We are currently seeking an innovative and experienced Head Baker to join our team, who specializes in Greek baked goods and sweets.

Start Date: As soon as possible

Terms of Employment: Full-Time, Permanent

Duties:
  • Prepare dough for pies, bread, rolls and sweet goods, batters for muffins, cookies and cakes and icings and frostings according to recipes or special customer orders in a timely manner
  • Develop new recipes from scratch
  • Manage supply costing and inventory and requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies, as needed
  • Bake mixed dough and batters
  • Prepare special orders
  • Oversee and supervise 5 baking personnel and kitchen staff and delegating tasks
  • Provide training to baking personnel on baking techniques and methodologies
  • Frost and decorate cakes and baked goods
  • Ensure that the quality of products meets established standards
  • Inspect kitchen and food service areas
  • Operate machinery
  • Organize and maintain inventory
  • Prepare baked goods for customers with food allergies or intolerances
  • Check products for quality control
  • Ensure compliance with applicable health codes and regulations, including establishing cleaning schedules for equipment, work areas and storage.

Position Requirements / Skills:
  • Completion of secondary school
  • At least 5 years of experience working in high-volume kitchens as a baker, required

  • Attention to detail and accuracy required
  • Keeping up to date on baking trends

  • Must be dependable, reliable, and a team player
Language Requirements:

English

Working Conditions:
  • High-paced and high-pressure environment
  • Physically demanding, as must be standing on feet all day
  • Exposure to hot ovens
  • Routinely lifting heavy items
  • Working to meet tight deadlines
Wages:

$36.00 per hour and overtime rate of $54.00 per hour paid after 44 hours of work per week;

Work Hours:

40 hours per week, with occasional overtime. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
